. . . hasn't LiveJournal made this exact April Fool's joke before?

I could have SWORN they did, but I just went back and looked at five years of April Fool's jokes and didn't see it (although I did turn up a strange memory of last year's April Fool's day when THE ENTIRE INTERNET RICKROLLED US). So, apparently not. Unless you count 2007, when LJ pretended they were turning into Myspace. Maybe that's what I was thinking of?

To be honest, I hate April Fool's Day on the Internet. I'm one of the world's more gullible citizens, so it's basically an entire day of being made to feel like an idiot. "WHAT? --oh, crap, that's right. Wait, what the heck? --crap. OMG WTF? --CRAP I'M SO STUPID."*

I don't like being made to feel stupid. I also don't like being lied to, and I almost never find Internet April Fool's jokes very funny. (Real life April Fool's jokes, however, are hilarious. MY friend Kai is the master of them.) It's just . . . too easy to work up a fake front page for your website, or announce that you're going to be retiring, or whatever. Nothing like . . . y'know. Taping the phone to the receiver. That one never gets old. Until everybody switches to cordless phones. I guess that one is kind of dated now.

Anyway, I'm just going to thank LJ for posting their April Fool's joke so early so that hopefully I am now fully aware of the day so I can remember not to believe anything I read tomorrow.


* Fortunately, I have a policy of not commenting on things unless I'm very comfortable, so at least I only look stupid in private.
