Huh. Just a little while after I made that last post, I got salmoned. I'm not annoyed . . . I'm actually kind of intrigued. Apparently I'm not the only one . . . it turns out, there's a whole LJ community devoted to the phenomenon (themissinghat).

. . . too bad I didn't figure out exactly what was going on until AFTER I pissed off the person the bot connected me to. See, my default reaction when confronted by someone I don't know online is to become very stiff and condescending. Compared to your average joe on AIM, I have exceptionally good written English, so my tone gets very formal . . . showing off, you know? Which would be fine, if the person I was talking to was actually playing a prank on me, but is less cool when they're also being pranked. Ah well! I'm still intrigued.
